Happy Birthday sweet Sawyer. You and your mommy are both Angels. Liz you and your husband are truly blessed with this little Angel. Wouldn't it be a great world if all parents with such struggles realized how much they can learn from their children. To be an advocate and a proclaimer is to be an Angel of God and a Keeper of his children.

Deb please email me your address @ primadonnaliz@yahoo dot com and I will get this bottle shipped out to you. Thank you all for your support with the purchase of this amazing color for this amazing cause. I look forward to working with many more heartfelt cause with our Glimmer of Hope campaign.

I heard back from Marion and she sent her gratitude in regards to the postponement of our blog hop. Please continue to keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers as they are remaining in Texas another week due to their son catching Pneumonia. I pray that her and her family find rest and peace during this trying time.

Thank you!!!

a sweet BIRTHDAY giveaway, plus a change of plans...

So today was supposed to be the third installment of mine and Marion Smith's blog hop featuring our recycled treasures. We as some of you may know, Garrett's (Marion's husband) grandfather passed away this past week. So Marion and family had to leave suddenly down to Texas to be with family. With this, I am not sure if Marion will even have the time to think about our blog hop, so I am going to text her and see if she would like me to postpone it for now. So for today I am going to give you this fun little sneak peek of my project, and if by some miracle (which is totally possible with Marion) Marion posts her project tomorrow, than I will go ahead and post mine on Tuesday. I am sorry for the delay, but I really don't want Marion to feel any more pressure than she already is right now. I wish her and her family the best of luck with their travels and hope that you will join me in praying for them during this tough time.

Today is also my sweet Sawyer's birthday... Oh how I love his sweet face and I am still left speechless when I think of just an amazing little boy he is.

As much struggles as we have been through, he brings a joy to our lives that makes trials and heartache go void... I was already a mother when he was born, but what he did make me was a fighter, an advocate, a proclaimer... and a victor. I love you Sawyer and thank the lord for every little piece of you that he has blessed me with.

In honor of my Sawyer and the piece of my heart that he carries... I would love to giveaway one bottle of "Piece of Heart" Glimmer Mist. For those of you who do not know, this was a special color of Glimmer Mist that me and another mother from the office created to helps support Autism Awareness. If you would like to be entered into winning this bottle, leave a comment on any post on my blog that is dated between today and Thursday (April 29th) and I will randomly pic a winner and post it on Friday.

Thanks again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY SAWYER!!!!!!

From Shabby to Chic... Making the ordinary FABULOUS.. part 2

So I have to say... I am a little partial to this installment of our blog hop. I always tend to have my "scrapbook" eyes on when ever I go shopping. But $1 stores tend to send my mind racing. For a while I have wanted to do a video sharing some of these ideas and well... I am so glad to FINALLY be able to settle down and share these.

So here are a few ideas that I am sharing today:

Race car wheel flower centers- Who says flowers can't be for boys? With these flower centers, flowers can be totally gender neutral (now I am sure some men would argue this still!) But hey, chances are that you have already been putting flowers on your boy pages anyways, so why not try and legitimize it??? So here is a layout and a card that I made using these fun $1 store race cars.

The inside of this card says:

(and roll)

I though this would make a cute gender neutral card :)

Here is a layout that I created using the same $1 store race car wheels to center some fun shapes. I mirrored this layout after the 60's feeling of the movie "catch me while you can". Since we were at the Planes of Fame museum, I thought it would be fun to give this layout that 60's feel from that movie. I think it was originally the font of the chipboard that made me think on that movie, I know it is weird...lol... but I really do like the way this layout ended up, even with the weird inspiration. Also this picture is kinda not the best. I ran out of good lighting so I will take another pic when I get home from work and have better lighting.

This fun patterned paper is by Far Flung Craft a fun paper line based out of Singapore. Their releases at CHA were some fun Asian and Indian inspired designs.

$1 store elastical headband- With this project I used some scrap pieces of tulle and silky fabric to create this fun head band. This is SOOOOO easy!!!! I took my hot glue gun (had to go out and by an new one, I think this is like my 6th since I keep misplacing them!) and wrapped some glittery Grey tulle around the headband. I then added a rolled silky flower and some aqua tulle for accent and Viola! A fun custom headband!

Here is a video with some up close views of these projects and a little better explanation of each of them:

Non Traditional dollar store finds for crafting

Here are some fun videos that share some fun ideas with using doilies... both paper and crocheted.

Using a crocheted doily as a mask with Glimmer Mist

Using paper doilies to create fun flowers, ruffles and trims

So you can see just why I was so excited to share these fun ideas with you. Make sure to check out Marion's blog as well for her take on our $1 store challenge. And also, make sure to participate too! Join in the fun with our fun techniques and tag us in your picture on Facebook to be entered into a random drawing for a fun prize.

I hope you have enjoyed them and that they help spark a little creativity in your day!

Shabby to Chic... Turning the Ordinary to FABULOUS pt. 1

Ok so today is the first day of my blog hop with Marion Smith from a Piece of Craft. In this FUN blog hop, we are going to share some unconventional ways of making the ordinary fabulous! We have the next two weeks planned out with some fun themes and great ideas! Here is what we have planned out:
APRIL

19th antique store finds: reusing vintage items in crafting. We will take a trip to the flea market and come back with a variety of options to make you re-think these lost treasures.

22nd $1 Store: Now we all know that $1 stores do have a small scrapbooking aisle... but what about the rest of the store? We will explore the possibilities beyond the craft section and open up the possibilities to some VERY interesting finds.

26th Reduce, Recycle, Reuse: on this day we will feature some "unconventional" products that can be easily re-used in a FABULOUS way! Sprinkle in a little "green" mentality and you have an inexpensive and totally resourceful crafting experience.

29th Rags to Riches: So for this day we are taking some of our "older layouts" and projects and reinventing them to a modern time, not necessarily taking them apart... but offering a "classic" layout the opportunity to be "new" and perhaps take these ideas onto a whole new page. We will also be utilizing some literal "rags" and incorporating them into our projects.

With April being Autism Awareness month, my blog hop for the month kinda took a back seat. But thankfully Marion was on board to do a POWER month crammed into two weeks. I am looking forward to sharing with you all some "resourceful" ways of creating in hopes that we give you some ideas that will platform some of your own "resourceful" thoughts.

So here is my interpretation of our theme for today (Antique/Flea Market Finds):

For this resourceful craft, I used some old wool and cashmere sweaters to create a wearable broach.

Using some old Jewelry from an antique store to embellish the centers.

This flower is doubled up on color using a striped sweater.

And here is a video explaining just how I did this:

I have a few other items that I picked up on my flea market venture, but unfortunately the battery ran out of my camera as I was filming, so I will have to share those this weekend. We will also be doing a giveway for those of you who would like to try out out fun technqiues, give them a try and post them to facebook. Make sure to tag myself and Marion in them so that we can add you to the list of participants. We will randomly pick a winner from those who participate. Now I know this didn't go so well last month, but I am hoping that was just because of easter. This specific craft is super easy and CHEAP, so I hope you all will try it out this month. We will be randomly picking a winner at the end of the month from all who participated.

Next months blog hop will be featuring the Tattered Angels Education Team!!! I am so grateful to be able to participate with the girls for a Tattered Angels National Scrapbook Month Blog Hop. It will be so much fun and feature ALL things Tattered Angels. It will start May 1st with some videos from the Tattered Angels staff.

So as you can see I am going to be BUSY this month, but between work and soccer for the kids, this will be a fun project for me and James to work on. We love doing these videos and hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Thanks!

This girl has STYLE...

I am not sure exactly at what point my daughter began her fashion sense. I would love to say that she gets it from me, but let's be real here... she has barely seen me in anything but jammies and jeans since she was born.

I guess it is just the girl in her. In this picture she has quite a few things going on. She was wearing a bright printed tunic, with this leopard print hat and she had just had her adorable face painted. But even with all of this going on... this face is simply her and just so cute!

Here is the layout that I did for my Guest Designer Spot over at Couture Cardstock in full, I re purposed a frozen pizza insert for the circle. I then drenched it in Marshmallow Glimmer Mist and added some Tinsel Town Glimmer Glam for that added POP. together this really made the cardboard circle look like pressed metal.

You can see here that the Prima pearl and flower swirls were painted with Oil Slick Glimmer Glaze. I just love the look of these black roses.

Here is a close up picture of one of Heidi Swapp's new Custom Cut out tags that was Glimmer Misted with Frozen Lake and then glammed with Chandelier Glimmer Glam. The trim around the circle is silver sting of pearls from a craft store.

I TOTALLY LOVE THIS! This is some white rosette ribbon that I found at Hobby Lobby. I glimmer Misted it with Turquoise Blue and Sapphire Glimmer Mist and then added a hint of Tide Pool Glimmer Glam for that little added sparkle. You can see the glitter on the netting. I LOVE this!!!!
And well what over the top layout wouldn't be complete with a feather? LOL. I had these feathers left over from Halloween and put them to good use here. Well one to good use, I mean anything more and this layout would have been gaudy! (-I say this in jest... I know... I am gaudy with about most I do...but I embrace it!-)

And tucked on top of glimmer misted party crepe (I sewed a seem down the middle to gather the crepe) is this gorgeous title in the brand new Heidi Swapp Gothic Alphas. These have a resist on the letters that make a nice two tones effect when you use an art medium over them. I used Cinder Glimmer Mist which is a beautiful pitch black with a blue glimmer.
I know... As if this layout didn't have enough going on... I added lace to the black background. This is that gathered lace that you buy by the spool (the kind that looks like a lace ruffle) This made a nice frame around the center of the layout and since the center of the layout is circular, the lace circled the layout nicely. I just sewed down the frame of the black cardstock and trimmed the excess lace off.

And last but not least... this gorgeous bloom flanks the right side of the page. I created the base of this flower in a video I did for the Wear Your Adhesives on the outside" Blog Hop. The center is Prima Crystals that I assembled with my Crafty Power Tape.

I know this layout is a bit much, but I can't help but love the vibrancy of color and texture that it has. So many things going on with this layout, but they all make me smile...

Thanks for stopping by today :)

A message from a Diligent Girl...

Diligent

diligent
[ˈdɪlɪdʒənt]adj
1. careful and persevering in carrying out tasks or duties

Why yes... I am Diligent...

Although I have never fully understood the meaning or should I say, digested the meaning of diligence I choose to do so now. At this very moment I am choosing to follow through, to commit, to show my integrity in what I do and process before doing. I love this definition and the way that the writer chose to add the word "careful".

With the hustle and bustle of what this world has told us to be, it is no wonder that this word "Careful" struck a cord with me. The idea of taking the time to be methodical with actions and words should be a priority, yet it sometimes doesn't even make the short list, even with myself.

Again, the words of the Brave Girl birdie hit home and brought a smile to my face :)

So we also need to pick a winner for our bottle of "Piece of Heart" Glimmer Mist. And the winner is.....

Be Brave...

*****Edited******

This layout.... Ahhh it just brings a good feeling to me. This is one of the layouts that I did as the guest designer for Couture Cardstock last month. This layout is a reminder to myself that I am different... and that is OK. That I have something special deep down inside of me that is waiting to shine, and I don't need anybody's permission to let it. This layout reminds me that within me are some very kind and thoughtful words, that someone needs to hear. Inside of me is a full heart, waiting to give... and that is OK because that is me. I chose these words to give out into the world in my actions.

YOU-NIQUE- This is often something that I share on my blog. Being a unique individual that I am and being true to myself and to what I stand for.

BOLD- taking strides that I normally would not. Stepping out of my comfort zone and stepping into faith and the plan that God has for me.

BEAUTIFUL- Sharing with others my hearts contents. Sharing more than small talk and taking advantage of the moments I am given.

BRAVE- This has been the hardest for me to embrace, but the most important. I NEED to learn to step out in faith. period. I need to stretch myself to change to a point that it hurts. I have had the privilege to have been mentored by some really awesome ladies and through their words... I am taking steps towards bravery... I think we all kinda need to be brave if not for our families than for ourselves...

I am not always a simplistic-minimalist type scrapper, although I completely envy those who can create a simple layout... my creations just seem to keep on going. I love how this layout is somewhat minimalist, yet still has touches that resemble my textural style of scrapping. For example, each of the leaves are free form cut, hand stamped, hand painted with Glimmer Glam, lacquered with Liquid Laminate and then stitched. So although it looks clean and simple... it was anything but! I took me three days to get through all the leaves that I had cut :)

There is so much more that this layout represents that it is just so hard for words to express. I am grateful for the wonderful women that God has surrounded me with. Moving out to Colorado with out the comfort of family has been a huge adjustment me. And I am so grateful that God has hand picked some amazing friends to stand in the gap with me. I am forever moved by this.

A little bit of ROCK AND ROLL...

A few of us on the Tattered Angels team were asked to alter a Clip it up by Simply Renee. These fabulous storage units take up little space, yet offer a great way to organize. I used mine to store my glimmer screens and stamps.

Hop on over to the Tattered Angels blog to see more pics and my story behind why I decorated my Clip it Up with a little Rock and Roll. Kind of a funny story, but what can I say... have to stick true to who I am :)

Some more good words from the Brave Girl Birdie

Once again these words struck a chord within me. It never fails that each and every one of these emails sent to little ol' me nourishes my soul like an abundant feast to a starving person.

(click on the text to make the picture larger)

The things I find the most heartfelt about this message are:

  • Utilizing your skills and resources to the utmost potential
  • Brave Girls who CARE make the world a better place
  • they are reaching farther than they did last year
  • THEY ARE INCREDIBLE.

This last statement is something that should resonate within each and every one of YOU!

YOU are incredible, and if somebody hasn't told you lately, THAN I AM TELLING YOU RIGHT NOW! You would not be reading this at this particular moment unless you were not meant to read this!

As creative women (an men) you are resourceful, innovative, ingenious and thoroughly gifted... and all of this creativity is just waiting to bounce right out of you and on to your projects. Stretch yourself this coming up week. Go a little further than you have before and just be smart about the decisions and directions that you make.

If you have not yet signed up for this free newsletter I highly recommend it. This is not one of those emails that you just toss in your trash. I look forward to these emails. They are truly nuggets of truth that need to be shared. Click here to sign up for daily truths. Believe me... they are exactly what you need to hear daily!

Enjoy your weekend!

♥ All you need is LOVE- Pleated water color paper ♥

So I realized through the flurry of blog posts that I have been posting that I haven't had a chance to share the details of the projects I did for Couture Cardstock as their guest designer.

I had so much fun playing around with this cardstock. ESPECIALLY their brand new Pure Silk watercolor paper. I used the lighter weight watercolor paper for this really fun pleating technique.

Here is a close up of the four colored pleated swirls. All of the swirls started off white and were Glimmer Misted to these beautiful colors. I used Jazz Blue, Meadow Green, Candlelight, and Cherry Limeade.

Here is a close up picture of the pleating...

Here are the fun little sequin that I sewed into the picture of my daughter.

To create this fun pleating, I took my Crafty Power Tape by SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L and cut strips of Glimmer Misted paper and created these pleats out of each color paper. I then also inlayed them into black cardstock for a dramatic look. I also sewed the seams so they looked inlayed. And of course I followed up with a coat of Dazzling Diamond over the top of the layout for good measure :)

I have a few other projects that I will share hopefully this next week... It funny just how fast life catches up to you... and one blog post... turns into another and before you know it... IT IS NEXT WEEK!

I hope this layout has helped you get your creative wheels going... I just love the way it turned out. I have two others plus a canvas to share (I can't wait to share them!!!).

And don't forget to check out the giveaways both on my blog and over at the paper life blog.

I am so grateful to have been asked by my new friend Amy Coon over at The Paper Life to be her guest on her weekly podcast show. Both of our boys are on the Autism Spectrum and what a treasure it was for us to talk and get to know each others families. It was as if we had known each other for a lot longer than just a few days! With the launch of Tattered Angels Glimmer of Hope Campaign and the new Piece of Heart Glimmer Mist, Amy asked me to talk about my passion for raising interest in Autism Awareness.

Click below to hear our podcast!

I do hope you will take the time to check out Amy's site and listen to our podcast. The Paperlife is also giving away 9 bottles of Piece of Heart Glimmer Mist on their site, so hop on over and leave a comment for a chance to win!

Thank you again for your love and support this month. spreading the word, sharing your story or even being a helping heart to those who are living with an Autistic child... every little piece helps and we can ALL do so together!

XOXO,

~Liz
